Measures that will appear on the November 2016 ballot in the State include the following:
Science and Cultural Facilities District in Larimer County: A tenth-of-a-percent sales tax to fund scientific, cultural, or historical projects, events, and groups in Larimer County.
No. Superficially districts such as this one seem to be a good idea, but examination of the specifics – when they are provided – reveal that they are, at best, problematic. The way the proposal is worded indicates it will be more than problematic – “. . . scientific, cultural OR historical. . .” Implicit in this is the idea it should be a general fund for unnamed and unknown projects, which will likely require more money that is generated, and which require additional tax dollars. To simplify the matter, for the present, it must be rejected by the voters.
