A growing number of private communications asking emphatically for an alternative to THE REPORTER-HERALD (Loveland, CO./Digital First Media) because it is no longer a credible, professional, and objective source of news, and because the Managing Editor of record, Jeff Stahla, has made it known that he has no intention of doing his job properly, especially where comments posted to the newspaper’s web site are concerned.
A review of the comments supporting this request, which provides reason for an alternative to the newspaper, and I cannot disagree with the opinion that THE REPORTER-HERALD is no longer a credible, professional, and objective source of news, and that the comments allowed on the newspaper’s web site are more than just inappropriate. Several of them constituted explicit threats against President Donald J. Trump and other elected officials. Add the comments that contain profanity and obscenities, and the failure on the part of Mr. Stahla to prohibit such comments, and the request for an alternative to THE REPORTER-HERALD becomes something that cannot be ignored.
It is unrealistic to believe that an effort such as this one could be an alternative to any daily newspaper because the resources needed to do so do not exist. However, based on the circumstances, an effort will be made on my part to provide a resource that can serve as a substitute until such time someone with the financial means and resources can establish a newspaper that can directly compete with THE REPORTER-HERALD.
